Official Statement by the Catholic Bishops of North Carolina

"As a marriage and family counselor, I can vouch for the utter necessity of establishing marriage as a union of a man and a woman. This is the social fabric of the family--really, of civilized society. I am totally behind this effort!"

 –Paula Rinehart, LCSW-

"Marriage is a social institution. As such, it comes with specific roles, relationships, and is the foundation of the family structure. The government's sole role when it comes to marriage is merely to recognize it. Therefore, it is important that we as a society, Christians and non-Christian, have the chance to let the government know what we want marriage to be and not to allow a small group of judges or private interests define it for us. This is about democracy.  This is about freedom. This is about our future.

-Shaun Cashman-

"I strongly agree with what you are doing and will stand with you as we all pray and fight, build and battle to get this amendment through our government and finally protect marriage as God established it.  God bless you in your efforts."

-Rev. J. Allen Mashburn, Providence Chapel Baptist Church-

"Just let the people vote!  What are the opposing legislators so afraid of?  The vast majority of NC voters are intelligent thinking people and oppose same-sex marriage and favor a strong marriage amendment.  Let the people vote!!!"

-Pastor Ruffin Snow, Tri-City Baptist Church-

"We assert that the traditional nuclear family, consisting of one man and one woman joined by marriage, is the healthiest and most secure relationship, and form of family, in which to create a stable and prosperous environment to establish and build strong families. We believe it is the best form of family and should be encouraged by law."

-James Randleman, Constitution Party of North Carolina-
