Counter Homosexual Activists This Week!
On Tuesday, March 24, homosexual activists will converge on the State Capitol to urge their lawmakers to support equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer members of our State. The all-day lobbying event, known as the “Day of Action,” is sponsored by Equality North Carolina, the state’s largest homosexual advocacy group. Attendees will spend the day meeting with legislative leaders and other members of the General Assembly to promote their radical and dangerous legislative agenda.
That agenda includes urging lawmakers to oppose SB 272 and HB 361-Defense of Marriage, which would allow North Carolinians to vote this November on an amendment to the state constitution defining marriage as only the union of a man and a woman. Both bills have been referred to committees, where they are awaiting action. There is no doubt that Equality North Carolina and its supporters will use their lobby day to pressure House and Senate leaders to keep the Defense of Marriage bills from ever reaching the House and Senate floors for a vote!
We must make sure lawmakers know that Equality North Carolina does not speak for the majority of North Carolinians on the issue of marriage! Don’t let homosexual activists have the last word—lawmakers need to hear from us that the Defense of Marriage legislation is about preservation, not discrimination.
You can help counter Equality North Carolina's efforts to keep you from voting on a Marriage Protection Amendment this year:
(1) Come on down to the Legislative Building on Tuesday, March 24 and meet your State Senator and State House member and ask them to support the Defense of Marriage bills (SB 272 and HB 361).
(2) If you cannot visit them in person, call or email your state legislators on March 24.
3) Also on Tuesday, please call or email House Rules Committee Chairman Bill Owens, at 919-733-0010, and Senate Ways & Means Committee Chairman Charlie Dannelly, at (919) 733-5955, and ask them to vote on the Defense of Marriage bill in their committees.
By flooding our lawmakers’ offices with emails and phone calls next Tuesday, March 24, we can counter the efforts of Equality North Carolina and their allies to rob us of our chance to vote on a Marriage Protection Amendment this year!
